Corporate Background
Rolf H. Koehler worked for the Freudenberg Group for 40 years, thereof 25 years in Asia, last as General Manager of the Freudenberg Regional Corporate Center Asia (until December 2012). Freudenberg is a German family owned industrial company with over 165 years history, supplying seals, vibration control technology components, filters, nonwovens, household products, release agents and lubricants as well as IT services for the automotive and general industry.
As part of his corporate assignments he lead the set-up the Groups’ first own nonwovens factory in Greater China in 1988 (Taiwan). Later he was responsible for the Asia Nonwovens business including Japan, Korea and India for 6 years. In early 2004 he moved to Shanghai as Regional Director Asia for the Freudenberg Nonwovens Group. Three years later, as General Manager for the newly created Regional Headquarter and simultaneously as HR Director Asia, where he focused on corporate services and HR. In the years in Asia, he was particularly successful in guiding Joint Venture companies with Asian partners.
Additionally he displayed strong personal dedication for social responsibility projects as an initiator and for a Freudenberg earthquake project to rebuild a school in Sichuan after the 5/12/2008 earthquake in China. Acting in China for “Freudenberg Help” he is still coordinating support for students and the school e.g. through annual summer-camps etc.
Current Roles and Responsibilities
Following his Executive Coach Certification program from Coaching Australia in 2009, Mr. Koehler found his client base among senior executives and managers mostly from European based companies in China. He carries out coaching as well as coaching/mentoring assignments, with priority on leadership and European/Asian cross-cultural management issues, team building, HR subjects, career development and work/life balance subjects. He further consults Chinese and Western companies on business projects in/from China and acts on the advisory Board of Fiducia Management Consultants..
Besides being an Executive Coach in Shanghai, he is Director of CanadAsia Management Development Co., Ltd., Shanghai, and Chairman of a Canadian company, Baby World Language, a highly innovative start-up company with global focus on foundational English learning for newborn babies via their mothers.
Mr. Koehler serves as board member of the German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai now for over 6 years with focus on HR and business and society issues. Currently he is guiding a major initiative to let German companies strengthen their roots in China through social responsibility:
